San Diego, CA- San Diego Mesa College announced Chris Leguizamon (he/him) as the newest addition to its esteemed Fermentation Program. By demonstrating expertise in beer comprehension and tasting proficiency, Leguizamon earned a certification of Advanced Cicerone- the highest level out of four complex and demanding certifications. According to the Cicerone Certification Program, this level of certification requires distinctive expertise in beer, strong sensory skills, and mastery of flavor vocabulary for both technical and consumer audiences.

With a profound commitment to inspire minds through the art and science of brewing, Chris brings an abundance of knowledge and experience to the role of an instructor for Mesa College’s FERM130- Flavor and Form course.

In anticipation of leading the FERM 130 class, Chris shares his enthusiasm, stating, "This decade-long journey of understanding beer and the culture around it, is meant to be shared and inspire the next generation. It is an honor to lead the FERM 130 class this upcoming spring semester in 2024."

Leguizamon has established himself as a prominent figure in the craft beer community, holding the distinction of being a certified “Beer Judge Certification Program” judge. Notably, contributing valuable knowledge to industry professionals at competitions such as the Great American Beer Festival in Denver, Copa Baja in Mexicali, and Copa Cervezcera del Pacifico in Ensenada.

Bridging the gap between the technical aspects of brewing and the customer-facing experience, he also shares his passion for beer as the Education Program Manager at Pure Project brewing. Expressing his belief in the power of knowledge, Chris highlighted his decade-long journey in understanding beer and its culture, emphasizing his commitment to sharing his wealth of knowledge to inspire the next generation. "Above all, I want to provide a warm welcome to the beer world. The world of beer and other fermented products has been a deep-rooted passion for all the instructors at the Fermentation Program at San Diego Mesa College, and we are eager to share what we have learned."

The FERM 130 class is an exciting exploration of the history, community, and business of beer, wine, and spirits in hospitality management. From international beverage markets to small craft distributors, the course comprehensively covers styles, regions, processes, food pairings, and the economic impact of beverages on the hospitality industry. This hands-on experience is designed to enhance the understanding of beverage-making principles through weekly tastings and sensory applications.

San Diego Mesa College eagerly anticipates the positive impact Chris Leguizamon will have on students and the brewing community, further solidifying the institution's commitment to equity and excellence in education.
