At San Diego Mesa College, we celebrate our scholars at every stage of their journey—from planning their first semester, to the accomplishments they pursue long after they leave Mesa. Amongst the many inspiring alumni who continue to make an impact, we are proud to highlight Sheba Candor, whose academic and professional journey embodies the spirit of this year’s Equity and Excellence theme, “Rooted in Purpose. Grounded in Equity. Growing Together” which highlights the many ways Mesa students grow, persevere, and shine.

Since March, Mesa students have won prestigious scholarship awards to fund their educational endeavors for the 2024-25 school year and beyond. Mesa student Husna Ayoubi was chosen to be one 60 community college students selected to receive the Cooke Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship, a highly competitive award that can reach as much as $55,000 each year by financing all or a portion of educational costs, including tuition, room and board, books and required fees. Additionally, students won awards from organizations including the California Law Pathways program, the American Veterinary Medical Foundation, and the Coco-Cola Foundation.

San Diego Mesa College has announced a new partnership with California LAW that will create a pathway for Mesa College students to complete their education and enter the legal profession. Cal LAW collaborates with community colleges to encourage diverse students enter the legal profession in order to represent the diverse population of the state of California. Mesa College will begin accepting interested students into its Pathway to Law School program in Spring 2021. Community colleges such as mesa partnering in the program were chosen due to their high commitment to equity, demonstrated by college leadership and resources that provide transformative educational experiences and support for students on a pathway to a law career.
