San Diego Mesa College signing educational partnership

SAN DIEGO — San Diego Mesa College has expanded access to bilingual educational services through a partnership with the Consulate General of Mexico in San Diego, providing weekly, in-person support to community members through the Ventanilla de Orientación Educativa

Mesa College began offering services at the Consulate on Friday, November 14, 2025. A representative from the college’s Dreamer Resource Center is on site every Friday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. to share information about Mesa College programs, educational pathways and student support services.

The partnership is formalized through a memorandum of understanding between San Diego Mesa College and the Consulate General of Mexico in San Diego. The agreement aligns with the Mexican government’s Ventanilla de Orientación Educativa initiative, which connects Mexican nationals and individuals of Mexican origin with accessible educational opportunities in their local communities.

“As a Hispanic-Serving Institution, San Diego Mesa College is deeply committed to expanding access to higher education by meeting students and families where they are,” said Dr. Ashanti T. Hands, president of San Diego Mesa College. “This partnership with the Consulate General of Mexico reflects our responsibility to serve our community with dignity, cultural understanding and clear pathways to opportunity. By bringing bilingual, trusted support directly into the community, we help ensure that education remains accessible, welcoming and transformational for current and future generations.”

In addition to weekly services at the Consulate, Mesa College is working with community organizations and school districts to promote higher education opportunities. Through the partnership, Mesa College representatives collaborate with groups such as Parent Institute for Quality Education (PIQUE), San Diego Unified School District and Sweetwater Union High School District to support college access and educational attainment.

Mesa College, the Consulate, and San Diego Unified School District will also host a bilingual college fair on Saturday, Jan. 24, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Logan Memorial Educational Campus. Everyone is welcome. The event will provide students and families with information about college options, financial aid and academic programs, with bilingual support available throughout the day.

San Diego Mesa College is a comprehensive community college committed to access, success and equity, serving students through degree and certificate programs, transfer pathways, workforce training and lifelong learning opportunities.
