San Diego Mesa College Debuts “The Stand: Farmers Market” in Partnership with Feeding
San Diego
By Office of Communications
San Diego, CA ---- On Thursday, April 19, at 3:00 p.m., San Diego Mesa College will
debut “The Stand: Farmer’s Market”, created via a new partnership with Feeding San
Diego. The Stand: Farmers Market grand opening event will offer students and members
of the Mesa College community access to free food, including fresh produce.
“We are excited to partner with Feeding San Diego to offer this important resource
for our students, “stated Dr. Pamela T. Luster, President. “Providing free, fresh
produce to our community begins to address challenges associated with food insecurity
including academic outcomes, health, depression and stress. We are the change we wish
to see and are excited about the impact our partnership will have on our campus community.”
The initiative is part of Mesa College’s effort on “Taking a Stand Against Hunger.”
Free reusable bags will be given to the first 150 guests. Various additional resources
will be available at the event, including representatives from the CalFresh program
which provides free money for food to eligible students. Faculty and staff will also
be on hand to answer questions about The Stand and to provide access to other campus
resources. Going forward, Mesa College plans to host a Farmer’s Market each month.
The Stand will also be accepting donations of nonperishable food items, gently-used
professional or business casual clothing, or unopened hygiene products. Monetary donations
can be made online via PayPal or Amazon Wish List on The Stand homepage. Checks can be made out to and sent to The San Diego Mesa College Foundation at
7250 Mesa College Drive, Room A-111 (please include “The Stand” in the memo).
