Mesa College Dance will be presenting Dance Synthesis: An evening of Dance and Entertainment.
This spring 2019 dance concert, held nightly at 7:30pm on April 18-20, features an
all student choreographed performance at the Joan B. Kroc Theatre at the Salvation
Army Kroc Center in San Diego. See Mesa College’s talented dancers take to the stage
with energy, passion, and enthusiasm as they perform original choreography created
by our student dance makers, including Mesa alumni Chelsea Roquero, and led by Dance
Professor Donna Flournoy.
Chelsea Roquero, an alumni of San Diego Mesa Dance, has returned to choreograph for
this semester’s dance concert. "It feels like home—coming into the studio and dancing
with the dancers in my piece, and having conversations with Ms. Donna," shares Roquero.
A soon-to-be BA Dance graduate of California State University, Long Beach, Roquero
accredits the Mesa Dance Department for helping her find her passion, enjoyment and
love of dance. "Training at SD Mesa College really showed me that if you work hard
and continue working, you are able to achieve your goals," Roquero expressed. "I remember
being in class and everyone was so encouraging. I have found such a love of helping
people achieve their dance dreams because of how I was treated at Mesa."
Her movement is inspired by the articulation of the body and finding pathways through
space with the influence in her contemporary movement. For this performance, her piece
titled "apex//in the midst" is Roquero's expression of "human relationships and how
people can feel in the middle of trial or testing."
Join the Mesa College Dance Company for a wonderful evening of dance where audiences

The Dance Department at San Diego Mesa College offers over 40 active courses, providing a lower division
curriculum comparable to those in four-year institutions. We are training students
to transfer to four-year universities, as well as to take part in the growing field
of entertainment. The Dance Department has demanding technical dance classes and rewarding
exploration and information classes in theory, history, and choreography that provide
students the opportunity to learn about and create movement as a rich part of the
fabric and culture of our world. For more than 40 years, we have shaped dancers, dance
lovers, and dance makers here at San Diego Mesa College. Be a part of the next generation
of movers and shakers!
