Mesa College Art Gallery's Student Art Exhibition Open Through December
By Angela Garcia, Office of Communications
The San Diego Mesa College Art Gallery has opened its doors for the Fall 2018 Student
Art Exhibition. The exhibition kicked off on November 29, with an end of the year
reception and student art sale to showcase the diverse talent of Mesa artists.
The student exhibitions are held at the end of each semester, giving students the
opportunity to share their talents and even sell some of their work. This not only
provides these emerging artists with some income, but it gives attendees the chance
to purchase one-of-a-kind gifts.
A collaboration of students from our Studio Art classes and Fashion Department created
each piece of art, featuring a wide array of media including drawing, painting, printmaking,
digital media, photography, ceramics, design, sculpture and fashion. With over 100
works on display, the exhibition is one you will not want to miss.
In addition to the student collection, a window installation by San Diego Artist Katie
Ruiz titled Mother Rose Cried Many Burdens is on site. Ruiz is a Chicana artist who is creator and owner of VIVID SPACE SD gallery
in Little Italy, and she teaches classes with the San Diego Community College District
(SDCCD).
This impressive exhibition, which Museum Studies students designed and executed with
direction from Professor Alessandra Moctezuma and Gallery Coordinator Jenny Armer,
is open until December 11 in the San Diego Mesa College Art Gallery. Gallery hours
are Monday to Wednesday, 11:00am – 4:00pm and Thursday, 11:00am – 7:00pm. For more
information, please visit Mesa College Art Gallery events or contact Gallery Director, Alessandra Moctezuma at amoctezu@sdccd.edu.
