Mesa College Hosts the 43rd Annual Golden Scissors Fashion Show Celebrating Student
Talent and Creativity
“Natural Sensibility” will Showcase Fashion and Environmental Consciousness

San Diego, CA – On Friday, May 17th, 2024, San Diego Mesa College is thrilled to announce the 43rd annual Golden Scissors Fashion Show, from 5:00 - 7:00 PM on the Mesa College Campus.
Organized and promoted by Mesa’s Fashion Program students, attendees will experience
a meet-and-greet with designers, people’s choice polls, a design showcase, awards
and more.
This year's Golden Scissors Fashion Show, themed "Natural Sensibility," invites attendees
to embark on a journey exploring the beauty and authenticity inherent in the natural
world. From designs crafted with sustainable materials to those inspired by organic
silhouettes, student designers will unveil their interpretations of this theme, showcasing
their dedication to both fashion and environmental consciousness.
"The Golden Scissors Fashion Show showcases the incredible talent, creativity and
skills of the Fashion students here at SD Mesa College” said Shira da Jong, Fashion
Merchandising student at SD Mesa College. 
Guests will witness firsthand how students unleash their creativity, hone their skills,
and prepare for fulfilling careers in the vibrant fashion industry. Through comprehensive
training, students not only prepare for a successful show but also gain immersive
experience, mentorship opportunities, and valuable industry partnerships.
All those interested in the fashion industry of the San Diego community are encouraged
to join in this exciting event and show support for local-fashion student designers
while promoting sustainability in fashion. This ticketed event is open to the public.

Learn More about San Diego Mesa College Fashion Program
As part of San Diego Mesa College's Fashion program, students can create inventive
designs and projects while informing our culture. Students will learn how to capture
their artistic vision efficiently by using digital technology and apply knowledge
from courses in sketching, sewing, pattern making, and draping to physically bring
designs to life. Students will learn styling, how to interpret trends, and execute
stunning visual displays. In addition, students will be using the latest technologies
to track sales, interpret analytics, and create tech packs and marketing materials.
Mesa students immerse themselves in the local fashion community with opportunities
to participate in field excursions and study abroad, hold internship positions, and
learn from our expert faculty and knowledgeable guest speakers. Mesa’s curriculum
is curated by faculty who possess extensive industry experience with insights from
an advisory committee of fashion professionals. Students will find support on and
off campus to achieve their goals to enter a fashion profession or pursue further
education at another institution. Our alumni have competed on Project Runway and found
