San Diego Mesa College Boasts Over 2,000 Graduates in 2017
By Office of Communications
San Diego, CA. — Today, the San Diego Mesa College Commencement Ceremony at USD's
Jenny Craig Pavilion will honor over 700 graduates, just a portion of the 2,006 students
who earned degrees and certificates in 2017, a 19% percent increase over 2016. Nearly
300 students are graduating with more than one degree, 73 are graduating with a perfect
4.0, and over 600 students - nearly 30% - are graduating with Honors.
“This is truly one of the highest achieving graduating classes we have ever had,”
stated San Diego Mesa College President Dr. Pamela T. Luster. “From our veterans to
our student athletes – this is an amazing group of students - headed to places like
Stanford, MIT, CAL, UCLA, and of course SDSU, UCSD and USD. We’re sad to see them
go, but we are equally proud to see how far they’ll go.”
This year’s event takes place at the Jenny Craig Pavilion at USD on Saturday, May
20 at 3:00pm, with San Diego Community College District administrators joining over
700 graduates and thousands of family members for the ceremony.
The 2017 Distinguished Alumni speaker is Alexander Szeto, a 1982 Mesa College graduate
and a systems engineer at Northrup Grumman. Mr. Szeto helped Mesa College raise over
$26,000 this year for scholarships through his “Scholarship Challenge”.
