Mesa Fashion students recently visited the Coronado Public Library for an exclusive tour of the Edith Head Exhibition. The exhibit, displayed in conjunction with the Coronado Film Festival’s “Focus on Fashion,” showed design renderings and sketches by Fashion Icon, Edith Head.
As students toured the exhibit, Library Director Christian Esquevin shared the history of Edith Head’s design career, along with some background of the sketches on display from his private collection. Esquevin’s impressive collection of costume sketches includes many gems from the Golden Age of Hollywood, including an Edith Head original sketch designed for A
cademy Award-winning actress, Sophia Loren.

Fashion Professor Jordyn Smiley shared students’ excitement for the tour.
“We had just finished a lesson on rendering design sketches, so my students really loved being able to see what they learned in class being put to use in the real world,” shared Smiley.
With the ever-evolving industry of fashion, it is important that students stay engaged with the latest trends and industry standards.
Professor Smiley emphasized, “What sets Mesa apart is that our faculty are currently working in the industry, so students are given the most current information and assignments that correspond to industry-level topics and techniques.”
