On November 20, 2021, your San Diego Mesa College Olympians Men's Cross Country team defended their California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) title, dominating the race on the way to a convincing win. Four of our runners earned All-American accolades by finishing in the top 14 of the race. Esteban Magana was third at 20:18.5; Jonathan Kelly sixth at 20:22.4; Juan Rosales, 12th in 20:32.5 and Deven Provence 14th at 20:33.0 . Jesus Villarreal wrapped up title No. 5 finishing 17th at 20:39.3 . Franky Dolores and David Millan were SDM’s 6th and 7th finishers and shared in the championship.

This championship marks the first Back-to-Back state championship won by a Mesa program since the 2000 and 2001 teams were repeat state champions- teams that were both led by Sean Ricketts during his time as a student-athlete at Mesa, under Coach Manny Bautista. I guess you could say that Coach Ricketts knows a thing or two about winning.

Please join me in offering congratulating all of the San Diego Mesa College Men's Cross Country team, Coach Sean Ricketts and Assistant Coach Matthew Beckstead for earning the CCCAA State Championship (again!).

Please also note that the Olympian women had some success up in Fresno as well, as Yahaira Zuniga, a 2019 All-American from San Diego Mesa was second at 18:06.5, earning another All-American honor.
