Interior Design student Leonardo Herruzo can add his name to the list of award-winning
students and alumni from San Diego Mesa College’s Interior Design Program. On April
30, Herruzo won the Merit Award in the Student Commercial category at the San Diego
Chapter of the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) Design Awards gala, held
at the Museum of Photographic Arts in Balboa Park.
Herruzo was recognized for Cloud 9, an evocative design concept for a hotel set in
the San Francisco skyline merging technology and luxury into an environmentally-friendly
space. The design incorporates a lobby, a park for guests to unwind and relax in,
and a bar and lounge.
Also receiving recognition at the Design Awards was Mesa College graduate Megan Siason,
who took first place in the Kitchen Design category. Siason was named as one of the
National Kitchen and Bath Association’s top 30 Under 30 professionals in the Interior
Design field.
“To see students work toward their individual goals, achieve recognition by professional
organizations, and find fulfilling employment is about as good as it gets,” said Holly
Hodnick, professor and program coordinator of Mesa College’s Interior Design program.
“We’re very proud of the work students accomplish in our rigorous program.”
