San Diego Mesa College to Host Design and Discovery Fashion Showcase
By Office of Communications
San Diego, CA. - Tonight, San Diego Mesa College will present the “Design and Discovery Fashion Showcase – Meet the Designers”, an event showcasing garments of Mesa College Fashion students. The event will be
held in the San Diego Mesa College Math & Science Building from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m.
Earlier this year, the Mesa College Fashion Program proudly partnered with the Salk
Institute for Biological Studies ‘Women In Science’ program to create wearable designs
inspired by scientific research.
“Mesa College is proud that our fashion students partnered with Salk scientists for
the Design and Discovery Fashion Showcase," stated Dr. Pamela T. Luster, San Diego
Mesa College President. "This was truly two of San Diego’s top institutions coming
together to demonstrate that science is art and art is science.”
Thirteen Mesa College Fashion students were paired with leading female scientists
at Salk to learn about their work and be inspired. Each fashion student then created
a gown which embodied the bold and life-saving science being developed by each Salk
researcher. The results were stunning. The gowns were debuted at a Fashion Showcase
at the Salk Institute in October 2017.
Guests will enjoy:
- Viewing the garments created
- Meeting the designers and scientists who inspired them
- Exploring the connection between art and science
- Mingling with students, faculty and staff to learn more about all the exciting programs
at Mesa College
This is a free event, with a $20.00 suggested donation that will benefit the Mesa
College Fashion Program.
