San Diego Mesa College was named National Kitchen & Bath Association (NKBA) College of the Year for 2015 for its Interior Design Program.

Hispanic, first-generation and low-income college students at San Diego Mesa College will receive a big boost, thanks to a just-announced five-year, $5 million Title III grant from the U.S. Department of Education. The award will be used over a five-year period to improve and increase Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) progress through a student, faculty, and pathways focus.

San Diego Mesa College and the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum will co-host an interdisciplinary symposium on borderlands, refugees and displacement on campus at the Mesa Commons in room MC211A&B on Friday, Sept. 23 starting at 1 p.m. and Saturday, Sept. 24 starting at 9 a.m.

San Diego Gourmet Pizza Fest – a new festival for foodies and beer lovers alike – will debut this weekend in NTC Liberty Station’s Ingram Plaza at 11 a.m.

Featuring gourmet pizza from around San Diego, attendees will be able to try and judge the offerings in order to choose a “People’s Choice Best Pizza” popular vote winner. An expert panel of judges will also choose a winner in the category of “Best Gourmet Pizza in San Diego.” Beer tastings from local breweries are also included in the cost of admission.

Organized by San Diego Mesa College English Assistant Professor Pegah Motaleb and painted by Mathematics Adjunct Professor Sam Lee, a new “Little Free Library” will be installed this month at the San Diego Cooperative Charter School in Linda Vista.

San Diego Mesa College has a new center of campus life.

The Mesa Commons, set for an official dedication on September 14, has become the new heart and hub for students at San Diego Mesa College. Adjacent to the new Sunrise Plaza at the east entry to the campus, the 73,000-square-foot facility offers students a place to study, shop, and eat. For students in the Culinary Arts/Culinary Management Program, it provides a state-of-the-art learning facility and laboratory.

Dedication of new Mesa Commons at San Diego Mesa College, serving as the new student hub and gateway to the campus, housing two cafeterias, campus bookstore, convenience store, coffee café, culinary arts management labs and classroom, student-run M Fusion Dining Café, faculty and student lounge spaces, conference rooms, as well as campus stockroom, mail and printing services.

San Diego Mesa College’s Fall 2016 Faculty Exhibition will open with a reception at the Art Gallery and Courtyard from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 8, 2016.
