Sometimes, you hear a story that makes you want to know more. Kevin Gonzalez has such a story. The last time this story was updated, San Diego Mesa College student Kevin Gonzalez was a 15 year-old heading off to Massachusetts to complete his high school education. In the ensuing years, he has travelled to the other side of the world, built houses, but remained in close contact with his Mesa College professors and connections he made while on campus.
The San Diego Community College District has appointed four new student trustees for the upcoming academic year. Dalia Ramirez (San Diego City College), Zora Williams (San Diego Mesa College), Hailey Hua (San Diego Miramar College), and Haydee Zuniga (San Diego College of Continuing Education), will be sworn in during the June 20 SDCCD Board of Trustees meeting.

Program graduates have a 5-year job placement rate of 99%
San Diego, CA - February 27, 2024 - San Diego Mesa College is proud to announce that
its Radiologic Technology (Rad Tech) program has been awarded an 8-year continuation
of accreditation by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology
(JRCERT). This achievement marks a significant milestone for Rad Tech, representing
the first time in 22 years that it has maintained the full 8 years of accreditation.
Accreditation is a rigorous process that ensures educational programs meet and maintain minimum standards of quality and integrity. The Radiologic Technology program at Mesa College has achieved remarkable success, being commended for its program effectiveness, one of the main standards critiqued by accreditation committees, ensuring all programs maintain above the 75% benchmark for program and student success.
Notably, the Mesa program boasts a 5-year job placement rate of 99%, a 5-year credential pass rate of 84%, and an annual program completion rate of 81%. Furthermore, all graduates of the program attain a living wage in San Diego. Remarkably, 50 - 60% of Mesa students begin the
program in low-income status, highlighting the program's role in reducing the equity gap in our community. This additional information further underscores the program's commitment to excellence and its positive impact on both student success and community welfare.
“This accreditation not only reflects our department's proficiency in providing top-tier education but also speaks to our ability to adapt to evolving industry standards and technologies,” said Cassandra Storey, Dean of Public Health Science. “It reaffirms Mesa’s position as a leader in radiologic technology education, ensuring that our graduates are equipped with the knowledge, skills, and competencies necessary to excel in their careers and contribute meaningfully to the healthcare landscape.”
The Radiologic Technology program at San Diego Mesa College is dedicated to preparing qualified medical imaging practitioners who uphold the highest level of ethical patient care while demonstrating excellent clinical and technical practices. With a mission to provide top-tier education, the program proudly collaborates with clinical partners such as, Kaiser Permanente, Palomar Medical Center, Rady's Dental Center San Ysidro, Scripps Mercy Hospital, Sharp HealthCare, Sharp Rees Stealy, Tri City Medical Center, University of California San Diego, The Community Services Division and The United States Department of Veterans Affairs for a total of 42 sites that students go to for clinical training.
"This has been an ongoing team effort, and I would like to personally thank all of the students, faculty, clinical instructors, radiologic technologists working with our students, college administrators, and my college and department colleagues for making this happen," stated Kimberly Mills, Program Director of Radiologic Technology at Mesa College.
The official Radiologic Technology Accreditation Award Letter from JRCERT commended the program for its compliance with all relevant standards and awarded maintenance of accreditation for a period of eight years. This accreditation provides assurance to students, employers, and the broader community that they are receiving education and training of the highest caliber.
San Diego Mesa College remains committed to excellence in radiologic technology education, preparing graduates who are equipped with the knowledge, skills, and competencies necessary to excel in their careers.
