Mesa College Supported Dreamers with DACA Advocacy Week
By Office of Communications
San Diego California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office declared the week of Oct
16 to Oct 20, “DACA Advocacy Week”. In support of this, San Diego Mesa College held
various events on campus throughout the week that provided information, resources,
workshops and materials for all students.
Two main events were “Nuestras Voces/Our Voices” panel discussions; on Monday, Oct
16, one panel offered select students the opportunity to share their thoughts, experiences,
and suggestions about the political and economic environment that has developed regarding
DACA and undocumented students. On Thursday, Oct 19, a second panel offered a similar
opportunity to select staff and faculty members.
Additional events were the DACA Resource Fair on Tuesday, Oct 17, and the “Know Your
Rights” DACA Advocacy Workshop. The Resource Fair had Financial Aid representatives,
RISE Club, Student Health Services, DSPS, and off campus organizations including the
ACLU and the American Friends Service Committee to answer questions and offer available
information. The Workshop was presented by ACLU Representatives and Students Without
Limits to provide information on definitions, laws, and policies affecting undocumented
students.
