San Diego, CA -  San Diego Mesa College announced that the Tutoring Program: Mesa Tutoring and Computing Centers (MT2C)  has been awarded re-certification at all three levels of tutoring, which includes Tutor, Advanced Tutor and Master Tutor by the internationally recognized College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA).

The Mesa Tutoring and Computing Center (MT2C) is a centralized tutoring program dedicated to student success.  Mesa College offers face-to-face (on the floor) tutoring within the Learning Resources Center (LRC), in Hot Spots across the campus, as well as embedded classroom and online tutoring. MT2C seeks to inspire confident and independent learners to collaborate in a welcoming and safe environment, and empower students, tutors, classified professionals, and faculty to achieve their educational and career goals.  The heart of Mesa’s MT2C mission is to promote professionalism and to cultivate a community of mindful learners through kind and equitable practices.

Over the past five years, MT2C has developed a tutor training program that meets CRLA’s rigorous standards and has successfully completed the International Tutor Training Program Certification (ITTPC) peer review process. Achieving certification means that MT2C has met CRLA’s high standards for tutor selection, training, direct service, and evaluation as an integral part of their overall tutoring program.

The CRLA review of Mesa’s program stated, “Mesa has (sic) very well-crafted tutor training course[s] that utilizes a variety of delivery modalities. We especially appreciate how you built engagement…as it educates and reinforces content delivery both before, during, and after the training session.”

Additionally, Mesa’s MT2C program has been selected for a campus visit during CRLA National Conference in November of 2022. CRLA Conference organizers acknowledged, “Traditionally, this conference provides tours to the local colleges and universities to see what is happening in terms of learning assistance centers, student support centers, etc. Your MT2C program at San Diego Mesa College came highly recommended as a potential stop on this tour.”
