Deans' Council

Purpose

The Deans' Council coordinates the day-to-day activities of the Division of Instruction and develops near and mid-term plans for instructional activities and initiatives.

Activities of concern include but are not limited to: Catalog and Schedule Development, Curriculum, Enrollment Management, Accreditation, Athletics, Research, Articulation, Tutoring, Faculty Hiring, Faculty Evaluation, Basic Skills, Student Learning Outcomes, Program Review, Instructional Technology, Distance Education, Instructional Equipment and Library Materials (IELM), New and Adjunct Faculty Orientation, Classroom Assignments, Staff Development, and Flex.

The Deans' Council provides management representatives to serve on various campus committees. Members of the Deans' Council participate on an individual basis in many campus-wide activities, committees and task force groups and report on those activities to the Council as a whole.

Goals

  1. To increase retention, success, progress, and persistence in basic skills, CTE, GE, and transfer courses
  2. To provide institutional support to students who need basic skills, CTE, GE and transfer instruction
  3. To provide professional development that fosters a productive learning environment for students who need basic sills, CTE, GE and transfer instruction
  4. To develop reading, writing, ESOL, and math skills necessary for success in college-level courses
  5. To develop the study skills, self-awareness, and interpersonal skills necessary for success in college-level courses
  6. To increase awareness and utilization of support services available
