Mesa College Initiatives

San Diego Mesa College is committed to student initiatives that benefit our diverse student body.

Diversity and Student Equity

San Diego Mesa College seeks to build a culture of diverse, equitable and inclusive practices that create an enriched environment for our students, staff, faculty and the broader community.

Mesa Pathways

The goal of Mesa Pathways is to provide our diverse student population with clear direction, strong support, and well developed roadmaps to achieving their educational, career, and life goals; from the moment of their decision to come to Mesa College until the time they reach their goals.

EcoMesa

EcoMesa brings together and celebrates our campus-wide efforts to advance environmental justice.

Global Awareness and Education Abroad

We encourage our campus community to foster analysis and discussion of the cultural components and celebrations present in our society.

About the Humanities Institute

Since it began as a campus-wide initiative in September of 1990, the Humanities Institute has supported the work of faculty and staff to bring diverse programming/events (including conferences, guest speaker series, and community partnerships) to Mesa College. In the past, this was made possible by having a full-time faculty member and staff support to coordinate this level of work with the campus.

Mission Statement: The Mesa College Humanities Institute serves as an internal vehicle for cultural, interdisciplinary, and Mesa College community priorities. All institute activities are intended to increase student engagement, recruitment, and retention.

Humanities Institute Objectives

  • Provide a funding base for faculty and staff to use for organizing programs/events that promote our mission of working to serve as an internal vehicle for cultural, Interdisciplinary, and San Diego Mesa College community priorities.
  • Provide support to complete paperwork related to funded programming/events
  • Provide a network of campus and community partners for publicizing programming/events through email and print
  • Cultural Enrichment: concerts, plays, interactions with professional artists, lectures and seminars
  • Curriculum Enhancement: Resource Development, Master Classes, “Informances”
