Mesa Distance Education Committee

Purpose

The Faculty/Staff Committee on Distance Education shall be responsible for:

  • Alerting faculty to State and District online education policy matters;
  • Providing a forum for discussing online instructional issues and support needs;
  • Directing faculty to resources that support best practices and guidelines in online pedagogy;
  • Scheduling and advertising Flex presentations and other professional development opportunities for faculty and staff in the use of Canvas, online classes and online pedagogy;
  • Conducting periodic surveys of faculty and staff about the satisfaction level of online classes among students, faculty and staff;
  • Serving as an advisory group to the Academic Senate for issues regarding Distance Education.
  • Providing local input to the District DE Steering Commitee for issues regarding Distance Education.
  • Helping to develop policies for evaluation of online instruction.

Goals

  1. Track trends, policies, and changes in Distance Education at the district and state levels, and share that information with Mesa faculty and staff.
  2. Support and advocate for distance education faculty, and for the continuous improvement of our DE program, with the understanding that Distance Education is a key component of Mesa’s mission to be the leading college of equity & excellence.
  3. Advise the Academic Senate regarding Distance Education.
  4. Contribute to and support the professional learning opportunities from Mesa's Online Success Team (MOST) that prioritize equity, access, and student success in online course design & facilitation.
