Professional Learning | Black Lives Matter

Professional Development @ The LOFT

Learning Opportunities for Transformation (LOFT) is the campus hub for professional learning activities. The LOFT provides a space specifically designated for employee training and development. Mesa College offers resources for its employees as well as sharing the knowledge of others.

SDMesa Equity Initiative

In 2017, Mesa College entered into a multi-year year partnership with the Center for Urban Education (CUE). Our focus was to expand the capacity of faculty, staff and administrators across the campus to support and carry out instruction using the Principles of Equity Mindedness. Our efforts focused on the following major equity efforts at Mesa College.

Black Studies Department

The Black Studies Department is a holistic and interdisciplinary field of study that includes and connects history, psychology, sociology, politics, literature, religion, oral communication, music, and art.

UMOJA

The Umoja-Mesa Academy Program (UMAP) at San Diego Mesa Community College is open to all students, but, its unique program design specifically aims to increase the graduation, retention, and transfer rates of African-American students.

World Cultures Art Gallery

The World Cultures Collection at Mesa College was initially assembled to introduce Mesa College students to art created for use in Africa. Over the past few years the collection has grown to include pieces from India, MesoAmerica and the Pacific. It is a valued resource for students studying the visula arts, anthropology, Black Studies, and other courses in the Humanities.

Center for Urban Education (CUE)

Since its founding in 1999, the USC Rossier Center for Urban Education (CUE) has worked to bring equity-mindedness to institutions of higher education through socially conscious research, tools and learning institutes.
