As a course of study that seeks to recover and elevate African and Afro-American voices,
the Black Studies program at Mesa College provides you with a positive and comprehensive
understanding of Black history, culture, contributions, and theory that will empower
you to take action in your own community in support of diversity and equity. In Black
Studies courses, you will model social justice as you learn about the legacy and importance
of civic engagement and take advantage of the program’s service learning and volunteering
activities. Courses spanning across the arts, humanities, and social sciences will
provide a multidisciplinary approach to your learning to help you better understand
Black experiences and psychology from the level of the individual, to the family,
to dynamics within our larger political structures and systems. Whether you identify
