Course Facilitation

Course facilitation refers to the ongoing outreach and interaction between instructors and students--as well as between students and their peers. Encouraging consistent interaction in a class helps foster a learning community in which students take active roles in their education and feel comfortable reaching out to others for support. Course facilitation also enables instructors to strengthen their rapport with students and demonstrate genuine investment in their success.

Consistency

Outreach and interaction should take place throughout the semester (and can even include pre-semester contact).

Variety

There should be multiple avenues for interaction, including Canvas tools and class activities.

This Course Facilitation section of the Toolkit includes pages on instructor-led outreach and student-to-student interaction. These pages also contain information about Canvas and third-party tools that can be incorporated into courses to strengthen outreach and engagement.
