Students who successfully complete San Diego Mesa College’s one semester Phlebotomy
Technician Training program will receive a Certificate of Performance and eligibility
to apply for California state licensure as a Certified Phlebotomy Technician 1 (CPT1).
What’s your type? Whether your blood is type A, B, or O, the information encased in
your blood cells can tell doctors a wealth of information about your health. In the
Phlebotomy Training program at Mesa College, you will receive the job training needed
to collect, transport, and handle laboratory specimens, with the skills to identify
mystery ailments one vial at a time. Remaining mindful of your patients’ blood and
needle phobias, you will learn to ease a process that for some, is the most difficult
part of an office visit. Through directed clinical practice (following a background
check), you will benefit from the opportunity to put your technical and theoretical
knowledge into practice and receive hands on training at one of our partner lab facility
in San Diego. Gaining first-hand experience with quality care and patient safety,
you will model the skills that are important for a career as a phlebotomy technician
and/or as you continue your education at another institution.
