Geography Program

Take your first step toward a Geography Degree and a career applying a spatial lens to the world around you with geography classes at San Diego Mesa College. Combining natural and social sciences, your geography studies will provide you with the tools you need to seek solutions to many of our local, regional, and global problems. Guided by expert faculty, you will engage in discussions around contemporary issues from climate change to socio-spatial inequality and use your understanding of human behaviors and dynamic environmental features to champion equity and sustainability within your career and community. Geography classes will also include opportunities for field trips to places like Mission Trails Regional Park, the La Jolla Map Museum, and Pure Water San Diego, along with service learning opportunities with local organizations such as San Diego Audubon, Kitchens for Good, Feeding San Diego, Tecolote Nature Center, and Surfrider’s Blue Water Task Force. The understanding you will gain of your own role within the community will prove beneficial throughout your studies, as you earn your associate degree or associate degree for transfer, gain cultural competence, and learn to model informed ethics in all your decision-making.
