TODAY - INVITATION: Q&A with Filmmaker Steven Newcomb in honor of Native American Heritage Month (FLEX Credit Available)

Join the San Diego Community College District in honoring and celebrating Native American Heritage Month with a discussion with Steven Newcomb, filmmaker of “The Doctrine of Discovery: Unmasking the Domination Code” today, November 29, 2023, via Zoom from 4:00 PM �" 5:00 PM.

This discussion will be facilitated by City College’s Assistant Professor of Native American and Indigenous Studies, John Bathke. 

The film directed by Sheldon Wolfchild, (Dakota) and co-produced by Steven T. Newcomb (Shawnee, Lenape), The Doctrine of Discovery: Unmasking The Domination Code is a compelling presentation premised on the book Pagans in the Promised Land: Decoding the Doctrine of Christian Discovery. The film tells the story of how little-known Vatican documents of the fifteenth century resulted in a tragic global momentum of domination and dehumanization. This led to law systems in the U.S. and Canada, and throughout the world, that are still used against Indigenous Nations and Peoples to this day. The film concludes with traditional teachings developed over thousands of years that provide a much-needed healing alternative for humanity and Mother Earth at this time. The film will be available soon at campus libraries for public viewing.
