Race: The Power of an Illusion, a documentary produced by California Newsreel, in association with the Independent Television Service. Major funding was through the Ford Foundation and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, Diversity Fund. The Philadelphia Inquirer has said of this film, “One of the most honest and compelling documentaries I’ve ever seen on race and its impact on this nation.”

The 3-hour film will be shown a Mesa College in H-117/118 in 3 segments on Monday afternoon, April 11th, from 1-3 p.m., Tuesday evening, April 12th, 6 -8 p.m. and Wednesday evening, April 13th 6-8 p.m. The film “challenges one of our most fundamental beliefs that humans come divided into a few distinct biological groups.”  The second episode will explore the roots of the concept of race and will document how the concept was furthered in the 19th century.by proponents who relied on faulty scientific assumptions at the time. Everyone is welcomed to attend. Each episode of the film will run for approximately 56 min. and will be close captioned.
