Girl Rising, a powerful documentary about how educating girls around the world is necessary to change lives from poverty, ignorance, enslavement, violence, and hopelessness to that of education, fulfillment, hopefulness and joy. Meryl Streep said of this film, “This film delivers hope: reasonable, measurable, tangible hope that the world can be healed and helped to a better future.” The theme of the film is “EDUCATE GIRLS, CHANGE THE WORLD.”

The film, producers sincerely believe that “educating girls in the developing world can transform families, communities, and entire countries--and break the cycle of poverty in just one generation.”  The film began as a project initiated in 2007 as part of research for strategies to end world poverty. It was directed by Richard Robbins, who began referring to the girls who participated in the documentary as “revolutionaries” because they had the desire and the determination to improve their lives and change the world.

The film will be shown from 1 to 3 p.m. in H-117/118.
