Recital Hour 1-4 features guest artists with faculty and students as work force training and supports DEI initiatives requiring a written response. The event will meet on Wednesdays on the following dates:

Visiting artists provide faculty and students with direct exposure to specialized performance practices, repertoire, pedagogical approaches, and musical traditions that may fall outside their individual areas of expertise. These presentations routinely include discussion, questions and answers, reflection, and consideration of how the artists’ work informs teaching, learning, performance, and curriculum.

The events help improve instruction in that Recital Hour 1-4 provides one of the department’s most meaningful opportunities for culturally responsive professional learning. We invite artists representing varied musical traditions, cultural communities, performance practices, professional backgrounds, and approaches to music-making. These experiences broaden the range of musical knowledge represented in our department, help faculty teach students from diverse backgrounds more responsively, and expose both faculty and students to traditions that may not otherwise be represented in their regular coursework. This work supports the college’s commitments to inclusion, cultural competency, and educational equity.
