Be the Faculty Your Students Talk About: Create a ZTC/LTC Course

(Ed-Venture Series) This session provides a practical overview of how to design an engaging online course using Open Educational Resources, leverage Creative Commons (you don't need to build from scratch!), and earn the Zero Textbook Cost or Low Textbook Cost designation to help students quickly find your course when registering. You will learn how these labels attract students, reduce financial barriers, and highlight your commitment to access. We will walk through the steps to secure the ZTC or LTC designation in the SDCCD Course Catalog and share ready to use tips and resources to help you get started building your OER based course with confidence. At the end of this session, participants will be able to define Zero Textbook Cost and Low Textbook Cost courses and explain the benefits for students and faculty; identify the steps required to obtain the ZTC or LTC designation in the SDCCD Course Catalog; locate and evaluate OER resources appropriate for their discipline and course modality; and, develop a starter plan for converting an existing course to an OER based Zero Textbook Cost or Low Textbook Cost model.
