Reading Past the Shallows
We all know our students are struggling with reading. It’s frustrating for us and them. But the same plasticity that leaves the brain vulnerable to screens and ubiquitous LLM tools also means there’s a pedagogical fix: the capacities being stolen can be reclaimed. Active readers are more engaged, more resilient students, so let’s collaborate on ways to get our students there!
In this interactive session, we’ll have a chance to vent, to examine some basic cognitive theory, and share practical approaches for leading students past the shallows and into deeper, more active reading across the disciplines.
