Gabriela Ibarra Aspe
Bio

Hello, my name is Gaby Ibarra and I am a San Diego Mesa Alumni. At Mesa, I was part
of the Peer Navigator program where I connected with first-year students and helped
guide them throughout their first two semesters in college. Throughout my time as
a Peer Navigator, I solidified my passion for helping students. I transferred to San
Diego State University where I received my bachelor’s degree in psychology with a
minor in Spanish in Spring 2021.
Currently, I am in the School Counseling Master’s program at San Diego State University.
I chose to become involved in the Mesa Pathway Fellows program because it allows me
to help students. As a first-generation college student, I understand how difficult
it can be to navigate in the unknown territory of higher education. However, I was
fortunate to have people who both supported and guided me throughout my journey. Because
of this, I want to be able to help other students like me. My goals as a Pathways
Fellow are to amplify the student voices at Mesa and create equitable programs to
help bridge the educational gap in underrepresented communities.
