Along with minoring in Russian while at the University of Illinois at Chicago, she also earned a Study Abroad Certificate from Moscow State University. She is also well-versed on the book publishing industry, earning a certificate in Book Publishing from the University of Denver and having experience as a project manager for a children's book publisher before switching career tracks to academia.
