Cal-GETC 2025-2026

California General Education Transfer Curriculum

The California General Education Transfer Curriculum (Cal-GETC) is a general education pattern that fulfills lower-division general education requirements at all California State University (CSU) campuses and most University of California (UC) campuses. It is also accepted by some private/independent or out of state universities. Certification of this general education pattern is advantageous to most transfer students, but is not a UC or CSU admission requirement except when students are completing an Associate Degree for Transfer to a California State University. Students are strongly advised to meet with a counselor to develop an education plan that includes general education and major preparation coursework specific to their intended UC or CSU campus.

Courses on list are approved for Fall of 2025 and valid through Summer of 2026. Be advised, information can change with catalog updates during the year. Consult the SDCCD website for current catalogs and updates (including addenda and/or errata) and assist.org for the required major preparation coursework and grade point average.

Certification: Only full certification of Cal-GETC is available. Please see a counselor for details.

  • A minimum “C” grade is required in each college course for Cal-GETC. A “C” is defined as a minimum 2.0 grade points on a 4.0 scale. No more than 14 semester units of Pass/No Pass (Credit/No Credit) may be used toward Cal-GETC certification.
  • Each course must have been Cal-GETC approved at the time it was completed. Courses may be approved for more than one Cal-GETC area. However, each course may be used to certify only one of the areas it is approved for.
  • AP credit and coursework completed at regionally accredited U.S. colleges and universities can be used to fulfill some Cal-GETC requirements. All such credit must be evaluated through the Evaluations office. Foreign coursework is not acceptable. See catalog for details and limitations regarding AP/IB applicability.
  • Some UC campuses do not allow use of Cal-GETC for students who were previously enrolled at a UC campus.
  • Some community college courses have limitations on the amount of credit awarded by the receiving university.
  • A minimum of 60 transferable semester units (including GE courses) are required for transfer to a UC or CSU. Students who have more than 90 transferable semester units should meet with a counselor.
  • Cal-GETC may not be appropriate for some majors or schools at UC campuses. See the college catalog or the UC General education page.
  • All Official Transcripts including College High School, AP, and IB test scores are required.
