Important Update Regarding Counseling Services:
  • General Inquiries
    Please contact the counseling staff for general inquiries, sign up for drop-ins, or make an appointment. You can connect with us by phone: 619-388-2672 or email: sdmesafollowup@gmail.com.

    Note: Please include your student ID and reason for the visit in your email. If you require an immediate response, please contact the counseling department via phone.

Counseling Services:

Mesa College Counselors are available to meet with you in a variety of ways to assist in helping you achieve your academic goals. We are committed to providing a positive college experience for you. Whether you're pursuing a certificate of achievement, Associates degree, transfer from Mesa to a university, or personal counseling/development, we are here to support you!

The following counseling services are available: 

  • Counseling Quick Questions (Ask a Counselor)
    You can email a counselor at mesacoun@sdccd.edu for quick questions regarding general topics, such as, summer/fall registration dates and form processing assistance. These are for quick question and answer sessions and are NOT designed for intensive information.  Your student record will not be accessed. This can take up to 3 business days for a response.

    If we are unable to fully respond to your questions, we will refer you to drop-in counseling services or to schedule an appointment.

  • Drop-in Counseling
    Counselors are here for you on Drop-in everyday.  Drop-ins are short counseling sessions in-person, via phone, or email intended to address quick questions specific to a student’s academic record or immediate needs. During these sessions, counselors will be able to access your personal information.  Students will be seen on a first come, first served basis. 

    • Services include:
      Abbreviated Ed Plan (1 semester) 
      Financial Aid Referrals
      Academic Renewal Petitions
      Probation & Disqualification
      Career/Transfer/Course Questions
      Personal Counseling
      Petition Inquiries
      Info for prospective students 
      Prerequisite Clearance (view our prerequisite web page for more info)

  • Appointments 
    60 minute appointments are also available for more in-depth counseling sessions related to academic planning or to address complex questions or issues.  Appointments will be conducted by phone or by video conference. A computer or smart device will be needed for video conference appointments.  Appointments can be made one week in advance but will be limited during all class registration periods.

    To schedule an appointment, you must meet the following criteria:
    1. Enrolled in at least one class at Mesa College
    2. Transcripts from colleges outside of California must be received and evaluated
    3. Completed one semester of college coursework.
      *Please note that Veterans do not need to meet the above requirements to make an appointment.
      • Services include:
        Comprehensive educational planning
        Financial aid appeals
        Veterans ed plans
        Career planning/counseling
        Personal counseling
        Transfer advising
        Petition processing

        For the best availability, stop by the Counseling department to speak to our professional staff in person.  You can also use our online appointment scheduler (E-SARS) or call 619-388-2672.

        E-sars is available 8am to 11:59pm.  Appointments are released exactly one week ahead.  Please include student ID number and reason for visit when scheduling through email.

Need to submit your official college transcripts?   
Electronic transcripts are now being accepted for submission.  Please visit our webpage for more information on official transcripts.

To request an official evaluation of your transcripts: 
Contact counseling to complete the request via email or over the phone.

To apply for financial aid:  Complete the FAFSA and the California College Promise Grant (formerly Board of Governors Fee Waiver).

Mesa College Programs and Services

We have a number of programs to assist you with achieving your academic goals here at Mesa College.

Clicking on the program titles will direct you to each program's homepage.

Assessment -  will help determine which English and math classes you are prepared to take. Orientation will cover essential information on certificate, degree, and general transfer information. It will also address registration, college policies, and procedures that you need know to be successful at Mesa College.

Kapwa - A student support program designed to enhance Asian, Pacific Islander student success.

MAAP - The Mesa Academic and Athletics Program (MAAP) is a cooperative effort between the Counseling and Physical Education/Athletic Departments dedicated to the academic success of Mesa student-athletes.

Puente Project - A student support program designed to enhance Latino/a student success.

Umoja Mesa Academy - A student support program designed to enhance African American student success.

Honors - Designed for highly motivated students, this program encourages the cultivation of curiosity and makes possible the exploration of ideas and subjects beyond customary coursework and programs

Career Center - Provides students with workshops, events, resources, tools and counseling to support career and major decision making and job readiness skills such as resumes, job search, and internships.

The Transfer Center - Serves as a resource center for students interested in transfer. Check out brochures, catalogs, workshops, and more!

International Students - A resource for non-immigrant students attending San Diego Mesa College on F-1 student visas.

Veteran Students (VA) - Designated counselors are here to help veteran students in any way we can. Anyone entitled to V.A. benefits should first contact the Veteran's office at 619-388-2805.

The Stand (Basic Needs Resource Center) - To help alleviate food insecurity on campus by providing a safe and secure environment where all students have access to food, educating the campus and local community about food insecurity, and providing access to professional clothing to help our students succeed both in the classroom and in the community.
