This program prepares students to perform venipunctures, capillary punctures, and basic blood lab tests required for entry-level phlebotomy technician positions in clinics, laboratories and other health care settings.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and challenge acquiring clinical sites we will not be accepting applications for Fall 2021.
Next application cycle will tentatively open Spring 2022.

Phlebotomy Training Program
This is a restricted program due to the health and safety of patients in the clinical setting. Students admitted to the program are required to submit to a background check and drug screen. Students are responsible for these costs.
Students will be completing the majority of their clinical rotation at R. J. Donovan State Correctional Facility. Students admitted into the program will be required to complete a background check for the prison gate clearance (no cost). Students cannot have family members incarcerated at any California State Correctional Facility in order to complete their DCP hours at Donovan.
Degrees and Certification Granted
Certificate of Performance– Phlebotomy Technician Training
Students who successfully complete the one semester Phlebotomy Certificate of Performance are eligible to apply for California state licensure as a Certified Phlebotomy Technician 1 (CPT1).
The new California regulations were signed and became effective April 9, 2003. You may obtain a state certificate by following the three-step process: (1) take classroom instruction from an approved phlebotomy training program, (2) pass a written certification examination, and (3) submit an application form to the state with the required documents and fees.
