California State University General Education Breadth Requirements
Completing a GE pattern is one of the recommended components for transfer to a CSU campus. Additional requirements for upper division transfers include 60 transferable units, major preparation coursework and minimum GPA of 2.0 ("C").Students are advised to work with a counselor to develop a comprehensive Ed Plan for transfer.
Be advised, information can change with catalog updates during the year. This information is based on the 24-25 Mesa, City and Miramar catalogs and assist.org updates. Consult the SDCCD website for current catalogs and updates (including addenda and/or errata) and assist.org.
Please read the following important information:
Golden Four Course Areas - A1, A2, A3 and B4 are required for admission into any California State University. Pass/No Pass (P/NP) grades are NOT recommended in these areas. All CSU campus require letter grades of "C-" or better for graduation.

AREA A – ENGLISH LANGUAGE COMMUNICATION AND CRITICAL THINKING: Minimum 9 semester units(12-15 quarter units). Select one course from each group.

AREA B – SCIENTIFIC INQUIRY AND QUANTITATIVE REASONING: Minimum 9 semester units(12-15 quarter units). Select one course from each group - at least one course from Physical Science (B1), Life Science (B2), (B3) and one lab (if a course in B1 or B2 does not include a lab, then 1 lab Course from area B3 must be completed; lab course must match one of the two lecture courses taken from B1 or B2) and Mathematics/Quantitative Reasoning (B4).

AREA C – ARTS AND HUMANITIES: Minimum 9 semester units (12-15 quarter units). Three courses with at least one from the Arts and one from the Humanities.

AREA D – SOCIAL SCIENCES: : Minimum 6 semester units (8 quarter units). Select two courses.

AREA E – LIFELONG LEARNING AND SELF-DEVELOPMENT: (Minimum 3 units (4-5
quarter units).
Students may not complete Area E using only physical
activity
courses(EXSC).
Participating institutions are asked to limit the number
of physical-activity unitsthey count when certifying a student for Area
E. VETERANS:
Students who have completed at least 6
months of continuous active US military service have satisfied Area E. DD214
or
military transcript must be on file.
AREA F – – ETHNIC STUDIES:Minimum 3 units (4 quarter units).

CSU GRADUATION REQUIREMENT in U.S. History and American Institutions (Not part of CSUGE or required for admission; but may be completed prior to transfer). NOTE: Courses used to meet this requirement may also be used in Area D of this document with the approval of the CSU campus where a student is accepted.

Note: Students who have completed equivalent courses outside the State of California must complete one course from US-3. Articulation agreements may be altered by the college/university, check with the Transfer Center or Counseling department each semester for updated information.
