Peer Navigators

Guadalupe Mendez

Guadalupe Mendez

Meet Guadalupe! She was born and raised in San Diego, California, and has been attending San Diego Mesa College since Fall 2018. She hopes to receive an associate’s degree in Liberal Studies Education at Mesa and then transfer to a four-year university in California to earn her bachelor’s degree. She really enjoys spending time with kids and teaching them Spanish and Math but her goal is to become a 6th Grade Mathematics teacher and hopes to continue working within the San Diego District.

She is the first in her family to attend college and wasn’t sure if she was ready to leave home. She had too many questions and not enough resources. College was a series of mixed emotions but she heard about Summer C.R.U.I.S.E. and that’s how she learned about all the resources offered at San Diego Mesa College which helped her with the transition. After completing her first year, she wanted to give back to her community and decided to become a Peer Navigator in 2019!

When she’s not working or attending school she enjoys exploring her home state! Some of her hobbies include listening to music and hanging out at the beach. She also really likes eating at local restaurants with friends and family. Guadalupe is very much an introvert so she also really enjoys going for a run or hike to recharge!

Some words of advice Guadalupe would give students is to enjoy and appreciate the time you spend in your college career. Explore new hobbies, take fun classes, and make sure you do your homework. Ask questions if you need help and also offer others help. And most importantly listen to your body and make time for your physical, emotional, and mental health!
