Second-year student Zora Williams is using her voice to bring more mental health and nutrition programming to San Diego Mesa College. Williams was elected president of the college’s Associated Students (AS) for the 2024-2025 academic year and serves as the college’s student representative on the San Diego Community College District Board of Trustees.
Sometimes, you hear a story that makes you want to know more. Kevin Gonzalez has such a story. The last time this story was updated, San Diego Mesa College student Kevin Gonzalez was a 15 year-old heading off to Massachusetts to complete his high school education. In the ensuing years, he has travelled to the other side of the world, built houses, but remained in close contact with his Mesa College professors and connections he made while on campus.
The San Diego Community College District has appointed four new student trustees for the upcoming academic year. Dalia Ramirez (San Diego City College), Zora Williams (San Diego Mesa College), Hailey Hua (San Diego Miramar College), and Haydee Zuniga (San Diego College of Continuing Education), will be sworn in during the June 20 SDCCD Board of Trustees meeting.

The San Diego Mesa College Olympian Football team is off to a great start this season with an undefeated record of 3-0. On Saturday, Sept. 23, the team will take on East L.A. College for Homecoming.
“The last time the Olympians were 3-0 to start a season has been well over a decade,” stated Head Coach Peter Lofthouse. “Ultimately, we are looking for a bowl game, however our goal every day is to improve each day, and finish each week 1-0.”
To show their support and pride for the team, students, athletes, faculty and staff gathered in the Mesa College Commons Quad for the Spirit Week Pep Rally on Thursday. President Dr. Pamela Luster, Dean of Athletics Ryan Shumaker, and Head Football Coach Peter Lofthouse fired up the crowd, acknowledged all the athletics teams and led multiple chats of “We Are Mesa”.
The crowd cheered on the Mesa College Dance Team’s hip-hop performance, enjoyed free popcorn, and played various games that were set up around the Quad.
Prior to the Homecoming Game on Saturday, Sept 23, Mesa’s Associated Students is hosting a free family-friendly Tailgate Party full of booths, food, games, and fun from 4:00-6:00pm.
Once the Tailgate Party winds down, it will be time to cheer the Olympian Football team on. Tickets are $7 GA, $5 students, staff, faculty and seniors, $2 kids under 12. Free entry will be provided to those who bring and donate non-perishable items to The Stand, Mesa’s food and clothing pantry

San Diego, CA. — Tomorrow, on Wednesday, October 18 at 12:00 p.m., Mesa College will be hosting their Spirit Week Pep Rally on campus to celebrate the success of the Athletics program with the 4th win of the Devore Trophy, and upcoming contests, culminating in the 2023 Homecoming Football Game on Saturday, Oct 21.
The Houston Texans continue to pick from the San Francisco 49ers’ coaching staff as DeMeco Ryans forms his new crew with the AFC South. According to Aaron Wilson from KPRC-TV, the Texans are hiring 49ers defensive quality control coach Stephen Adegoke as their new safeties coach.
San Diego, CA. — On Saturday, October 28, the San Diego Mesa College Olympian Football team will face College of the Desert. Mesa’s 28-23 win over Victor Valley on October 21 secured the Olympians as #1 in the American Conference and #21 in the state rankings. Mesa’s defense ranks #1 in the state in five defensive categories.
