San Diego Mesa College Named One of Nation’s Top Two-Year Athletic Programs

The San Diego Mesa College Athletic Program has cemented its place as one of the nation’s premier two-year college athletic programs,
finishing second in the 2024–2025 Ron Case Cup standings. The award, one of the highest
honors in two-year college athletics, recognizes excellence in championship competition
across all sports.
Presented by the National Alliance of Two-Year College Athletic Administrators (NATYCAA),
the Ron Case Cup ranks programs from across California, Oregon, and Washington, based
on their success in state championships.
Scoring for the Ron Case Cup is calculated based on each college’s top five men’s
and top five women’s team finishes in state championships.

This years success was led by the following sports:
- Women’s Beach Volleyball – State Champions
- Men’s Cross Country – State Champions
- Women’s Cross Country – State Champions
- Men’s Track & Field – State Finalist; 6 individual state titles
- Men’s Volleyball – State Finalist
- Women’s Track & Field – Third in State; 1 individual state title
“This is an incredible accomplishment and a reflection of the hard work, talent, and dedication of our
student-athletes, coaches, and support staff,” said Ryan Shumaker, Dean and Athletic
Director at San Diego Mesa College. “Being recognized as one of the top athletic programs in the nation highlights the strength of our teams
and our continued commitment to excellence.
I couldn’t be more proud to lead a department filled with amazing individuals who
are shaping the future of our communities. The work they do each day often goes unrecognized,
but achievements like this help shine a light on the culture of excellence our coaches
and support staff strive to create every single day.”
The final standings for the Ron Case Cup as follows:
Mt. San Antonio College (193 points)
San Diego Mesa College (159 points)
American River College (158.5 points)
Riverside City College (156.5 points)
Orange Coast College (156 points)
