Mesa College's Computer Information Science Program Achieves Verified Status as a
Program of Computing Talent

In December 2023, the San Diego Regional Economic Development Corporation (EDC) was
proud to announce that San Diego Mesa College's Computer Information Science (CIS)
program has achieved the prestigious status of a Verified Program of Computing Talent.
Programs were verified as part of a rigorous evaluation process led by Advancing San Diego, the flagship program of EDC’s Talent Initiatives, which aims to double the production
of skilled workers in San Diego while prioritizing historically underrepresented populations
in the innovation economy.
Mesa College achieved Status as a Verified Program due to indicating five critical
elements in the CIS Program:
- Alignment of educational curriculum with industry requisites of necessary hard skills
(ex: coding)
- Alignment of educational curriculum with industry requisites of necessary soft skills
(ex: problem solving)
- Continuous engagement with industry
- Ability to reach and serve a diverse student population
- Proven history of collaboration along the education continuum and with critical community
organizations
This recognition not only solidifies Mesa College's commitment to excellence, but
also highlights the institution's crucial role in shaping the future workforce of
the San Diego region.
Mesa College's Computer Information Science program's achievement of Verified Program
of Computing Talent status is a significant milestone in the institution's commitment
to excellence in technology education. The San Diego Regional EDC commended San Diego
Mesa College for its dedication to producing a highly skilled and job-ready workforce
that will undoubtedly contribute to the continued growth and success of the San Diego
region's technology sector.
Mesa College's CIS program has a rich history of supplying high-quality computer science
education. The program's dedication to academic rigor, hands-on learning experiences,
and industry-relevant curriculum has consistently produced skilled and knowledgeable

Mesa College’s CIS Program offers an extensive amount of program certificates and
associate degrees in fields from computer science to computer programming, all the
way to software engineering. With over 20 different courses that will intellectually
stimulate student’s minds, the CIS Program not only gives students an understanding
of the field, but will also provide them with a passion for what potential careers.
