Second-year student Zora Williams is using her voice to bring more mental health and nutrition programming to San Diego Mesa College. Williams was elected president of the college’s Associated Students (AS) for the 2024-2025 academic year and serves as the college’s student representative on the San Diego Community College District Board of Trustees.
Sometimes, you hear a story that makes you want to know more. Kevin Gonzalez has such a story. The last time this story was updated, San Diego Mesa College student Kevin Gonzalez was a 15 year-old heading off to Massachusetts to complete his high school education. In the ensuing years, he has travelled to the other side of the world, built houses, but remained in close contact with his Mesa College professors and connections he made while on campus.
The San Diego Community College District has appointed four new student trustees for the upcoming academic year. Dalia Ramirez (San Diego City College), Zora Williams (San Diego Mesa College), Hailey Hua (San Diego Miramar College), and Haydee Zuniga (San Diego College of Continuing Education), will be sworn in during the June 20 SDCCD Board of Trustees meeting.

Students interested in the Honors Program at San Diego Mesa College are invited to a Hot Cocoa Social on Tuesday, Jan. 17 from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. in G-101.
During the event, students will get to meet other Honors students and faculty while learning about the various opportunities that the Honors Program offers, including scholarships and internships, the Honors Club, special transfer agreements, research and publishing opportunities.
“To transfer to California's four year universities is becoming highly competitive,” said Pegah Motaleb, Honor Co-Coordinator and English professor. “Here is an opportunity for students to not only take academically challenging and fun classes that will stimulate their curiosities, but also to make themselves stand out and shine when they submit their transcripts for transfer to four year universities. We are here to support the students reach their highest potentials.”

The total straight-line flight distance from Santiago de Chile to San Diego, CA is 5,465 miles. For Catalina Henriquez, this distance shrinks or elongates, depending on her longing for home, or for seeing the faces of her grandparents Manuel and Orietta. The life of Cata, as she has been lovingly called, was completely transformed when she and her family moved to this coastal and border city in the United States in 2017.
Looking to address equity issues on campus, San Diego Mesa College sought out advice and expertise from the Center for Urban Education (CUE) at the University of Southern California. “We needed to have someone hold up the mirror to us because it can be difficult to change from within if you don’t know what you need to change,” said Dr. Pamela Luster, President of Mesa.
Two honors students from San Diego Mesa College – Restileon “Resty” Asuncion and Victoria Green – have been named to the Phi Theta Kappa, All-California Academic Team, First Team.
