San Diego Mesa College to Award over $160,000 in Scholarships at Annual Awards Banquet

San Diego, CA. – Today, San Diego Mesa College announced the 2017 scholarship winners
who will be awarded in excess of $160,000 in scholarships at the Mesa College 24th Annual Scholarship Awards Ceremony on Friday, April 28th at 5:30pm at the Doubletree Hotel in Mission Valley. Scholarship winners and donors,
will “walk the blue carpet” at this stunning event, and be recognized for their donations
and achievements.
“We have an outstanding list of student winners this year,” stated Dr. Pamela T. Luster,
President. “We had a record number of applicants, evidenced by the fact that nearly
200 students are receiving awards – many of whom would not be able to afford college
if it weren’t for these scholarships.”
This year is distinguished by offering the highest number of scholarship opportunities
to Mesa College students at 109 (over 99 offered in 2016). In addition, it is the
highest number of scholarships awarded at 190 – with 34 of the recipients receiving
multiple awards.
In addition, Mesa College also announced that alumnus Alexander Szeto is sponsoring
the “2017 Scholarship Challenge”, where he will generously match any and all monetary
donations up to $10,000 that Mesa College receives through May 17, which coincides
with the Annual Scholarship Ceremony where funds are frequently raised. Mr. Szeto
and his family will be present at the Awards Ceremony next week to honor and meet
the recipients of the “Tony and Lido Szeto Family Scholarship.”
Members of the public are welcome to attend the San Diego Mesa College 24th Annual Scholarship Awards Ceremony on Friday, April 28th. The No-Host Social Hour begins at 5:30pm and the ballroom doors open for dinner
