Featuring original art made by students, San Diego Mesa College’s fall semester Student
Art Gallery Exhibit will open with a reception and art sale on Thursday, Dec. 1 from
4 to 7 p.m. in room D-101.
This semester, there are 100 pieces in the student exhibit – three pieces are selected
by the students from each studio art class. The various mediums in the show include
digital media, sculpture, design, ceramics, drawing, design and jewelry, and the exhibit
is installed, curated and lit by students in the museum studies course.
Museum Studies student Rebecca Kriz’s invitation design was chosen from several entries
to promote the show.
Art Professor and Gallery Director Alessandra Moctezuma said that aside from being
a good résumé builder, the students selected to show their work in the art show can
be a great sense of pride for the students.
“It’s a way to showcase how well our students are doing – in the end I think it’s
celebrating their work and their accomplishments as artists,” Moctezuma said.
In addition to the art exhibit, there will also be a student art sale that coincides
with the show. Items for sale include fashion accessories, cards, ceramics and more.
“It’s a really nice way to support our students and to get nice, original gifts for
the holidays,” Moctezuma said.
Mesa’s art gallery is open Mondays and Tuesdays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Wednesdays
and Thursdays from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. For more information about the art gallery, contact
