San Diego, CA - Join the fun with fashion’s most innovative night out at Seize the
Sunset! On May 12, 2017, San Diego Mesa College’s Fashion Program hosts the 36th Annual Golden Scissors Fashion Show, organized and produced by Mesa fashion promotion
students, where fashion design majors showcase their one-of-a-kind collections. This
is a great way to bring the San Diego community together and to support local community
college students.
“The talent and creativity of the fashion promotion and fashion design students is
on display at this unique event,” said Gretchen Bergman, Mesa College Fashion program
instructor.
This annual event supports the Fashion Program at Mesa College by helping emerging
student designers and merchandising students showcase their talents and skills to
the fashion industry and the community of San Diego. All fundraising, publicity, management,
organization and production aspects of the show are coordinated by the Fashion Promotion
students. Hair and makeup services are provided by Cosmetology students from San Diego
City College.
Check-in will start at 5:30 p.m., where guests can enjoy avidly bidding on items donated
by local businesses at the silent auction. Show time begins at 7:30 p.m., followed
promptly by the awards. All proceeds earned from the show will go toward fashion student
scholarships.
VIP tickets for the reception, silent auction, fashion show) are $60 (in advance);
student tickets (student ID required at door) are $20 in advance ($30 at door); and
general admission tickets are $25 ($30 at door). Tickets can be purchased at https://sdmesafoundation.yapsody.com/. The show will be held at the Sheraton San Diego Hotel and Marina in the Pavilion,
1380 Harbor Island Dr., San Diego on Friday, May 12, 2017.
The Fashion Program at Mesa College offers a two-year Associate Degree and a Certificate
of Achievement in Fashion. The program provides the opportunity to specialize in one
of four areas: Fashion Merchandising, Fashion Design, Computer Fashion Technology
Merchandising, and Computer Fashion Technology-Design. Fashion Merchandising prepares
students for entry-level positions in sales, management, buying, visual presentation,
promotion and wholesaling for both men and women. Fashion Design trains students to
work in the design /manufacturing end of the industry. The Computer Fashion Technology
degrees/certificates train students with a specialty in computer technology related
to fashion. Many Students enter the workforce after their students at Mesa while others
transfer to four-year programs at colleges and universities. Classes are offered during
