Three days of fun activities will take place as part of the International Education
Week at San Diego Mesa College on Nov. 15-17.
“International Education Week is an opportunity to celebrate the benefits of international
education and exchange worldwide,” said Spanish Professor Dora Schoenbrun-Fernandez.
“This is also a prime opportunity for the International Education Committee at Mesa
College to showcase the college’s and the Humanities Institute’s ‘global awareness’
learning outcome.”
Some of the activities planned for the week include workshops on Intercultural Communications
in Business, an interfaith panel session of religious and spiritual leaders and film
viewings of “Volver” and “Human.”
Information sessions will be available for the summer 2017 study abroad programs to Spain and Paris both Tuesday and Wednesday, and there will be a panel of former
Peace Corps volunteers speaking Nov. 16 at MC 211 A/B from 2:20 to 3:45 p.m.
On Thursday, Nov. 17 there will be faculty workshops about writing a study abroad
proposal and what to expect while teaching abroad in the LOFT located in room LR 435
from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. and 7:15 to 8:15 p.m.
This event is sponsored by the San Diego Mesa College Humanities Institute, Associated
Students, Mesa Global Awareness Committee, Phi Theta Kappa International Honors Society,
Mesa Spanish Club, Mesa Chinese Club and the Mesa Italian Club.
“This joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of
Education is part of our efforts to promote programs that prepare our Mesa Students
for a global environment and attract future leaders from abroad to study, learn, and
exchange experiences,” Schoenbrun-Fernandez said.
