San Diego Gourmet Pizza Fest – a new festival for foodies and beer lovers alike –
will debut this weekend in NTC Liberty Station’s Ingram Plaza at 11 a.m.
Featuring gourmet pizza from around San Diego, attendees will be able to try and judge
the offerings in order to choose a “People’s Choice Best Pizza” popular vote winner.
An expert panel of judges will also choose a winner in the category of “Best Gourmet
Pizza in San Diego.” Beer tastings from local breweries are also included in the cost
of admission.
This fundraiser will benefit the San Diego Mesa Foundation, an organization that helps
to support the student body through various scholarships, food cards, emergency assistance
and purchasing equipment for the campus.
The Mesa Foundation’s mini-grants program – grants of up to $1,000 for faculty and
staff at Mesa to be used for special projects or equipment – benefits the students
both in the classroom and out.
“The program brings exceptional, innovative opportunities to Mesa students,” said
President Dr. Pamela Luster of Mesa College. “Through mini-grants, faculty are able
to try different activities (CSI, Research Institute, High School Day, Marine Biology
Ocean Research Trips), purchase equipment and take students on important field trips
that impact their educational experience on campus.”
The restaurants that are participating in the festival include Red Oven, URBN, Oggi’s,
Solare Ristorante Italiano Bar Lounge, Blendtastic, Mamma Mia, Sunny’s Pizza, Isola
Pizza Bar, Napoleone Pizza House, Pizza e Birra, Badass Pizza & Brew, Mr. Moto Pizza
House and Paradise Pizza of Carlsbad.
Breweries offering samples of local drafts include Mike Hess Brewing, Garage Brewing
Co., 32 North Brewing Co., Helix Brewing Co., Oggi’s, Mission Brewery, Legacy Brewing
Co., Latitude 33 Brewing, Legacy Brewing Co., Acoustic Ales and PRP Wine International.
