Edwin's many academic honors include membership in Bradley's Forensic Speech Team, Bradley's Student Congress, Most Outstanding Political Science Senior Award (Bradley), Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society (Bradley), and Graduate Teaching and Research Assistant Awards (Arizona and Virginia). Dr. Fields' professional experiences are equally impressive and illustrate unique qualities for teaching and learning as well as significant public service activities.

Edwin began his teaching career rather early. While an undergraduate student, he served as a tutor for over 3 years at Bradley. During his time at Kansas, he served as a substitute teacher in Kansas City and also helped launch a business-education partnership through the Kansas City Area Chamber of Commerce. Subsequently he served as a law clerk with the Kansas Department of Corrections where he wrote legal memoranda and helped revise the Department's 'Quality Management Implementation Plan'. He also worked as a staff member for the Kansas Journal of Law and Public Policy. He then moved on to serve as a political writer and editor with the Bulletin News Network (BNN), where he prepared daily summaries for various levels of government and the business sector. Edwin's professional work in Kansas continued with providing legal counsel as a legal aid intern in domestic relations, criminal misdemeanor and juvenile cases with the Douglas County office of Kansas Legal Aid Society. He also ran as a candidate for the 38th District of the Kansas House of Representatives.

While pursuing his PhD at Virginia, Dr. Fields served as a teaching and research assistant in Political Science, helping launch and administer the University's 'Center for Politics'. Additionally he served as an academic mentor and tutor for the Athletics Department at the University. In Summer 2005, he moved to San Diego and began teaching Political Science courses for Mesa's Department of Accelerated College Program as an adjunct faculty member. His public service began immediately with being selected as the Chair of the Energy Issues Advisory Committee for the City of Del Mar.

As a highly trained political scientist and educator, Edwin brings to Mesa a keen understanding of diversity among students and in particular their unique and varying learning needs. As such, he holds great promise for our students and is a most welcomed addition to the Department of Accelerated College Program.
