Mr. Edward H. Helscher is an Assistant Professor, in the School of Physical Education, Health and Athletics, with an emphasis in Men's Basketball.
Mr. Helscher received a B. A. degree in Social Science from the University of San Diego and M. S. S. (Master of Sports Science) degree with an emphasis in basketball theory from the United States Sports Academy in Mobile, Alabama.
In addition to his distinguished academic credentials, Mr. Helscher brings to Mesa College 27 years of coaching experience at the college level: 22 years as an assistant coach and 5 years as a head coach. Ed has been an adjunct instructor at Mesa College since 1990, Head Basketball Coach at Mesa College the past 4 years, and 8 years as an assistant coach. During his 12 years at Mesa he has taught basketball, golf, racquetball, weight training, and fitness activities. He has held a full-time position as Teacher/Coach at Francis Parker High School since 1979; where, in addition to his coaching duties, he has chaired and taught in the Physical Education, Social Science and Math Departments.
Ed Helscher has been highly successful in the area of recruitment, which reflects his extensive knowledge of the San Diego area and the excellent working relationships he has formed with students and coaches in San Diego County. He is an enthusiastic and dedicated instructor who has clearly and consistently demonstrated his commitment to the goals of our profession.
