Karen Owen is an Associate Professor in the Computer Business Technology Education (CBTE) Department. Ms Owen holds a B.A. degree in Social Sciences from San Diego State University and an M.A. degree in Linguistics from the same institution. She also earned an M.S. degree in Business Management from the International University-Europe in London, England.
Ms. Owen has been employed by the San Diego Community District since 1993. Ms. Owen also has extensive experience in the corporate world. From 1986 to 1990, she was employed as Director of Training at Penultimate Systems, Inc., and for two years prior to that, she was a technical writer for Owen Geotechnical.
Ms. Owen is highly active in community activities and industry outreach. As a liaison between academia and industry, she is able to keep abreast of the ever changing field of computer technology and to anticipate future trends as well. Ms. Owen is particularly skilled in the use of the Internet and multimedia applications as tools for web-based instruction and has developed courses and certificates in this area. Additionally, Ms. Owen has written and administered numerous grants and has received awards from several organizations, including the League of Innovation and the ED>Net California Community College Economic Development Network.
