Class of 2012

Why did you choose Mesa College?  I wanted to be financially responsible. Mesa provides an equal, if not higher, caliber of education as major four year universities, and they do it without putting students in debt.

How long have you attended Mesa College?  I have attended Mesa College for three years.

How are you involved at Mesa College?  I have been a full time student at Mesa College since I graduated high school. I participated on the water polo team for two seasons, and, I was the captain of the swim team for two seasons.

What have you enjoyed most about your Mesa College experience?  My participation in athletics propelled my Mesa College experience from good to great. The support that my teammates and coach provided helped me excel in all aspects of my college career.

How has Mesa College prepared you to achieve your academic goals?  Mesa College is a stepping stone to the 4 year university track. I have realized that excelling in college does not have to an individual effort. Professors, study groups, counselors, and coaches have been there to help me when I needed it. Learning how to succeed at this level has prepared me for overcoming the challenges that I will face at the 4 year level.

What has been your favorite class?  There have been quite a few classes that were intriguing, but my favorite so far has been Introduction to Sociology. There are many subjects of American life, such as government, religion, and media, that I used to accept because they were the status quo. This class made me question the validity and purpose of these topics. Ultimately it made me see the world through a different perspective.

What resources/services have supported you during your Mesa College experience?  I used the tutoring service when I needed it, which helped my grades significantly. I have also been awarded a few of the scholarships that Mesa College offers. These were the most help of all. The hours that I did not have to work were used to study, and this ensured that I succeeded academically.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?  Ten years is a long time. I see myself having a Masters degree, a well paying job, and a family of my own.

What are your fondest memories about being about a part of Mesa College's Men's Water Polo and Swimming teams?  The best memories have come from the away games and swim meets that we went to. Spending 8 hours in a van, then the weekend in a different city with some of my best friends have lead to some of my greatest college experiences.

What advice do you have for perspective Mesa College students?  Think about where you want to end up in life. Make a plan with a counselor that ends in your success. Then do everything in your power to ensure that plan is followed through. It is hard to get distracted when you are looking ahead.
